An early example of this is the Dehne filter press, developed by A L G Dehne (1832-1906) of Halle, Germany, and commonly used in the late 19th and early 20th century for extracting sugar from sugar beet and from sugar cane, and for drying ore slurries. It is the earliest machinery used in chemical dehydration and is a traditional and ancient filter press. But some industries still use plate and frame filter presses for some essential filtration products. It is made of a reinforced polypropylene filter plate and filter frame with patented technology. It has high strength, is lightweight, corrosion resistant, non-toxic and tasteless. It is widely used in many industries and get strong adaptability.
The plate and the frame are arranged alternately, the filter press plate is covered on both sides by cloth. Then the plate and the frame are pressed by the pressing device, the filter press chamber is formed between the plate and the frame. There is a small hole in the middle of the upper end of the plate and the frame. After pressing, it becomes a channel. The sludge pressurized to 0.2~0.4MPa enters the filter press chamber through the channel. The surface of the filter plate is engraved with grooves. There are holes for the filtrate to be discharged. Under the pressure, the filtrate is discharged through the filter cloth, along the grooves and holes, and the sludge is dehydrated. To remove the filter cake and clear the filter plate and filter cloth, plates and frames are separated, and the filter cake either falls off or is scraped off the filter cloth and is collected in the tray below. The filter cloth is then cleaned, and the filter plate and filter frame are recompressed in preparation for the next cycle.
